On this day:

Tax Freedom Day

Prof. Michael DeBow at Southern Appeal notes:
Tax Freedom Day 2005 was yesterday -- for the average Americano. Here in Alabama (#49, or #2, depending on how you look at it), it was back on April 4.

According to the Tax Foundation, "Tax Freedom Day is calculated by dividing the official government tally of all taxes collected in each year by the official government tally of all income earned in each year." It is the "the date each year when Americans stop working to meet tax obligations and start working for food, lodging, transportation and other personal expenditures."
